On August 4, 2019, the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly Education & Scholarship Task Force presented a Community Spirit award to Friends of Southwest DC, in recognition of 20 years of grants from FOS for SWNA college scholarships. FOS has awarded more than 30 students almost $50,000.

2017
Friends of Southwest DC funded three $1500 scholarships for the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly’s Education and Scholarship Task Force. FOS scholarships were awarded to Samantha Anderson, Dannielle Crutchfield, and Caitlin Whitter.
2016
On July 10, the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly’s (SWNA’s) Education and Scholarship Task Force (ESTF) awarded 17 Southwest youths with college scholarships. FOS funded the $1500 scholarships for Asha Marshall, a Junior at Radford University in Virginia, and Phillip O’Sullivan, a Freshman at the University of Chicago.
2015
In 2015, Friends of Southwest DC sponsored two college scholarships awarded by the Southwest Neighborhood Assembly (SWNA) Youth Activities Task Force.
Tiffany Livingston will be studying Strategic Communications at Hampton University this fall. She graduated from Benjamin Banneker Academic High School this past spring. Tiffany is currently a member of the National Honor Society, the French Honor Society, along with the Math Honor Society. She is also a member of the Young Leaders Club. After college, she would like to pursue a master’s degree and eventually work at a PR firm.
Kiana Livingston will be studying creative writing at SUNY Purchase College this fall. She is a 2015 graduate of School Without Walls High School. Kiana enjoys writing, reading, singing, and acting. She currently works for a nonprofit organization working with the youth in Washington, DC and has launched her own social media campaign promoting health. After graduation, Kiana plans to obtain her master’s degree at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts Writing for Screen and Television along with publishing her own manuscripts.
